“The history and symbolism of Freemasonry thrilled me from early on. The principles I learned of the Craft have inspired me for over 10 years and have driven me to better myself for myself and for those around me. No matter what trials I face, I am never alone.” ~ Nolan
Nolan Overton’s Introduction to Freemasonry
As many people probably were, Freemasonry fascinated the young me. From the first time I read about the Craft in my high school library, it intrigued me. I read as many books on them as I could (this was pre-Internet days) and on some levels, believed the conspiracy hype. I wanted to know more!
Once in college and on into adulthood and family life, I forgot about the Craft. I focused my attention on more tangible things such as the dirty diapers that needed changing.
Then, one day an old friend came to me with a bit of knowledge that rekindled my old passion. A local mason talked with him, whom he knew well. After enough times of asking, he handed us petitions.
Seeking More Light
We filled out the petitions and waited. I struggled through the waiting. Finally, we received word that we were in. We passed our checks and found to be worthy. Dates were set. We showed up. My friend and i went through time tried rituals. More dates confirmed for meetings, dinners ate, memorization was done. We continued up the degrees. Then, finally, we raised to the level of Master Mason.
Fast Forward to Today
After a decade of living the Craft, we still seek further light and always will. That was the magic for me. It is a society of seeking what I always wanted, which is a great dinner and continued learning. And as part of that mission, I am honored to a part of this podcast to help others and myself further themselves in Freemasonry.
